The San Diego Venture Group ? a non-profit business organization whose mission is to provide an informal atmosphere for entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and business advisors to meet and foster ideas on how to form, fund and build new ventures ? announced TakeLessons as the winner of the 11th Annual PitchFest Biz Plan Competition.
?TakeLessons clearly articulates its company plan, possesses a strong management team and demonstrates continued momentum ? all qualities the San Diego Venture Group looks for in top PitchFest contenders,? said Rachel Barley, Executive Director of the SDVG. ?TakeLessons will be a great San Diego success story.?
TakeLessons, the nation?s full-service music lessons company, was one of 70 companies to compete for the grand prize of ,000. ?It was an honor to be considered among such formidable competitors,? said Steven Cox, TakeLessons? CEO and Founder. ?Presenting to San Diego?s top venture capitalists, investors, and business advisors was an award all in itself. The monetary prize was icing on the cake.?
This year, the San Diego Venture Group received company executive summary entries from San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County businesses. From there, 11 companies were chosen as semi-finalists by committee members, including representatives from Anthem Ventures, Avalon Ventures, Tech Coast Angels and Winward Ventures. Three final companies ? Aonori Aquafarms, Inc., CortiCare and TakeLessons ? were then selected to present business plans and visions at an awards dinner, where the audience voted for the company they felt had the most promising business plan, the most traction, and the vision to win the final prize. With TakeLessons? proven concept and the company?s promise to make a difference in the lives of others, Cox found himself on stage later that evening accepting his company?s much-deserved first place award.
?We are proud to be a part of the flourishing San Diego Startup community,? said Cox. ?TakeLessons promises to represent them well and a make difference not only in San Diego, but also nationwide.?
Like the San Diego Venture Group, TakeLessons? students and teachers recognize the value of having a safe place to take music lessons and a way for teachers to earn additional income to support their love of music. ?TakeLessons finds great students for me and does all the leg work and accounting,? said Mary DiCamillo, a TakeLessons Certified?
